The fifth day of the fifth lunar month is the Dragon Boat Festival, a traditional Chinese folk festival. It is one of the oldest traditional festivals of the Chinese nation. On this day, people will definitely do three activities: dragon boat racing, eating zongzi and drinking realgar wine. In memory of the patriotic poet Qu Yuan.

Qu Yuan was a minister of King Huai of Chu during the Spring and Autumn Period. During his exile, he still had a love for his motherland that he could not bear to give up because he saw his motherland being invaded. He threw boulders into the river and died. According to legend, after his death, people rowed boats to look for him. Some fishermen took out the food prepared for him and threw them into the river, saying that the fish, shrimp and crabs would not bite Qu Yuan's body after they were full; some doctors took out realgar wine and poured it into the river. Among them, it is said that realgar wine is used to stun the dragon and water beasts, so as not to hurt Qu Yuan; there are also some people who use leaves to wrap rice and wrap colored silk on the outside in order to give Qu Yuan's food not to be eaten by the dragon, just like the current zongzi. Over time, the custom of racing dragon boats, eating zongzi and drinking realgar wine has been established on the fifth day of the fifth month every year.
